Overview

We are very pleased to offer this dual-site visit which offers a very local perspective to Tudor life. Half a day is spent at each venue, just minutes apart.

At Peterborough Museum

Time-travel back to 1574 with our Tudor Surgeon find out about the illnesses that affected the Tudor Monarchs and their subjects. Explore how the changes brought about by the Reformation altered the way patients were treated and how, gradually, old ideas were challenged. Throughout the session pupils are asked to consider the responses and impact of the new ideas at this time.

Go down into the Priestgate Vaults under the museum building and see one of the original rooms in Neville Place. Meet Sir Humphrey Orme’s son, another Humphrey, and receive a local perspective on a significant national event.

At Peterborough Cathedral

Through costumed role-play, students will discover what life was like here in the Abbey of St Peter in the year 1539. They will learn how and why the Abbey became a Cathedral and the changes that happened to religious life in Tudor times. They will investigate the stories of significant people of the period including a visit to the tomb of Katharine of Aragon.
