General Purpose

  • The primary purpose of all Front of House staff is to ensure smooth access into and egress from the theatre performance spaces and to provide a quality catering service for the benefit of the theatre’s customers and to foster good customer relations.
  • At all times attendants will deliver great customer service through their polite and courteous manner
  • To follow procedures and routines as directed by the Duty Manager

Responsible for any financials or Direct Reports

  • Responsible for cash handling, selling of merchandise

Key Deliverables

Access and egress and audience safety

  • Examining tickets as people enter the auditorium
  • Showing people to their seats
  • Solving problems concerning seating arrangements
  • Preventing disturbances that may occur during the show
  • Supervising and assisting the safe evacuation of the theatre in an emergency

Bar and Coffee

  • Setting up the bar and coffee serving areas to ensure they are fully stocked prior to opening, during use and after closing in readiness for the next performance
  • Serve patrons refreshments, preparing interval drinks orders including operation of the Barista style coffee machine

General Duties

  • Working flexibly across other areas such as selling programmes and merchandise as well as serving pre show and interval refreshments including ice creams as required by the Duty Manager
  • To follow financial procedures for cash handling, reconciliation and responsible for the security of cash until it is handed over to the Duty Manager. Checking floats and cashing up sales
  • Assisting safe evacuation of patrons in the event of fire evacuation
  • Ensure all areas clean and tidy including bar and equipment, auditorium and toilets which might include litter picking, vacuuming and mopping
  • Conducting stock takes and advising of order requirements
  • Reporting maintenance issues/hazards to the Duty Manager
  • Excellent Customer service skills - working directly with the public
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Previous Bar, Theatre, Coffee House or entertainment venue work
  • Cash handling
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Demonstrable literacy and numeracy skills
  • Team player – willing to multi-skill, help others and be able to ask for help
  • Good interpersonal skills – will be working as part of a team and will need to communicate at all levels, whilst remaining respectful; crucial when dealing with both internal and external customers
  • Good organisational skills – will be working across the service and with competing demands
  • Methodical – ability to follow process and procedure
  • Available to work some evenings, weekends, daytimes on an agreed rota basis
